PROJECT OVERVIEW

Abacus Contractors Design Services provided specialist façade engineering support for the remediation of Worsley Mill, a seven-storey residential development in Manchester. Our role focused on the structural design required to replace combustible zinc cladding and timber balcony decking with non-combustible alternatives.

Our technical contribution included a comprehensive wind load assessment and full cladding design. This scope encompassed span capability checks, subframe and bracket design, fixing specifications, and critical safety evaluations such as prying force checks and rivet design. Additionally, we engineered the balcony decking support design to facilitate the transition to new, safer materials.

By delivering precise engineering for these proposed systems, we ensured that the remedial works met stringent Building Regulations while maintaining the structural integrity of the existing steel frame
